But did he want to be THEM?
View of the Pochinkovsky valleys
Among all whose destinies were intertwined under the shadow of the centuries-old pines of the Bor region, Grisha had the most difficult fate... In his life there was no place for poetic legends or inherited nobility - his path was forged from bitter resentment, blood and fatal irony.
In his youth, Grisha sincerely, with all his heart, hated magic and those who wielded it. He was born and raised in a tiny village, lost among the swamps, where food was obtained through backbreaking, exhausting labor on scarce land. There was not a drop of Arcana spark in his veins. The magicians in lush silk robes, who sometimes rode through their edges in gilded carriages, seemed to him arrogant, arrogant parasites. They looked at ordinary peasants as dirt under their feet. When crop failure, drought, or bloody raids by wild forest creatures burned entire settlements to the ground, sorcerers only passed by indifferently, jealously saving their secrets and powers for the city academies and royal courts. Grisha cursed their artificial, unfair gift and vowed never to bow to those who command the elements, and certainly never to become like them.
But fate loves cruel jokes, and cruel circumstances turned his life upside down forever...
During another raid by defilers, Grisha, trying to escape, found himself trapped in the ruins of an ancient, abandoned sorcerers' guild. Pinned in a corner, bleeding from deep wounds, he watched the creatures approach him. Mortal fear and a hopeless, wild thirst to survive forced him to grab the first object he came across - a heavy Tome of the Three Elements, covered with dust and carved with runes. Clutching the ancient volume with bloody fingers, Grisha, in despair, spilled his own blood onto its yellowed pages.
The unthinkable happened. An ancient tome, dormant for centuries, not only responded to the call of a dying man - it made a violent breakthrough. The tome burned out and re-redrew the subtle channels in the mental body of Grisha, who by nature did not have the slightest inclination towards sorcery. It was hellish, unbearable pain, as if liquid fire and lightning had been shot through his veins. Grisha survived. In place of the attacking monsters, only a charred handful of ash and frozen shards of ice remained. But what happened next shocked him even more. Having discovered magic through overcoming and pain, the former peasant experienced not fear, but pure, incomparable delight. The ability to command roaring flames, construct unbreakable ice shields, and tear apart enemies with crackling lightning was intoxicating. Two people fought in him, one hated with all his heart and cursed himself for becoming the same as those whom he despised all his life, and the other sincerely rejoiced with childish joy at new opportunities and new strength.
He realized what incredible power this gift contained. He decided. He decided that he would study magic in order to destroy all magicians and become the only and strongest magician.
Grisha studied day and night, exhausting himself with training. He brought his mastery of the three elements to perfection, gradually, year after year, he began to forget about his goal, he strove for great power and for his magic to be high-class, and while other magicians could only cast 1-2 spells, Grisha began to discover new ones himself, later he learned to combine elements and spells. Magic became for him not just a weapon or a craft - it became his meaning of life, his pride, his deep spiritual essence.
In the Bor Brothers detachment, Grisha became an unshakable, wise rock, capable of single-handedly turning the tide of the most hopeless battle.
However, the price of such power given to him by fate was much greater...
